Basal Cell Carcinoma: One Kind of Skin Cancer

Basal cell carcinoma is the form of skin cancer that is most common in Caucasians. It develops slowly, often on the face, and usually doesn't send cancer cells to other parts of the body.
Symptoms of Basal Cell Carcinoma
- a pearly or translucent skin growth, often with a dent in the center and raised edges, that gradually expands
- a patch of skin that itches, bleeds, hurts or forms a scab
- an open sore that fails to heal in one month, or one that closes and reopens
Though basal cell carcinoma is less serious than other forms of skin cancer, it is nevertheless something that must be treated. If you suspect that you have this condition, go to your doctor for a diagnosis. The earlier treatment begins, the more likely it can be cured.
